Let Down Thine Silken Hair To Me- Rapunzel

‘The enchantress would visit Rapunzel once a day, bringing material for clothes and food. When she would visit she would stand at the bottom of the tower and cry about;

‘Rapunzel, Rapunzel,
Let down thine silken hair to me
So that I may climb the fine stair’

Upon hearing this Rapunzel would let her long, strong hair tumble out the window. Then the enchantress would cry ‘Draw up!’ then Rapunzel would draw the enchantress up.
There was no way for Rapunzel to escape, for her hair was to fine and silky to tie about the bed post, and if she had managed to get a rope to escape, she would have nowhere to house. Thus Rapunzel was trapped atop her tower, with no company but her own and her captor, though despite the loneliness in the tower, Rapunzel kept her sanity, whilst remaining a good and kind child.

At the age of 13, Rapunzel was a beautiful as the day itself, and the fairest creature under the sun’

This is again a part of the version of Rapunzel I am writing which is a bit more like Petrosinella and then goes into the fairy tale ‘Sweetheart Roland’.

For this work I used the doll that has been consuming all my time for the hair. I knitted a doll with hair that is ….. Very, very long…. Like it is so long I can easily drop her hair from the third level of my house and it will hit the floor with a lot of hair spare and also two loops around a post….. So it is a mess when I have to untangle her hair lol and takes a day to untangled, but she worth it so I can get the hair right.

For this work I changed Rapunzel outfit to something more modest. Also cos the blue I use in her dress now shows more maturity then the pink and purple used in her later dresses (she is 18 in that dress.. just to clarify). This shows how she was at the age of maturity but forced to remain a child by the sorceress. Hope you enjoy this work I did enjoy drawing it .
