I Still Wish To Go To The Festival!

Description

‘But how I am I ever to get to the festival?
I know!
I’ll visit mother’s grave
The grave at the hazel tree
And tell her I just want to
Go to the king’s Festival!’

With this Aschenputtel ran to the hazel tree, from which her had mother lay to rest, and began to weep. Finally she sang

‘I've been good and I've been kind, Mother,
Doing only what I learned from you.
Why then am I left behind, Mother,
Is there something more that I should do?
What is wrong with me, Mother?
Something must be wrong
I wish……’

The wind blew, rustling the leaves of the hazel tree. The rustling Aschenputtel heard from this was the voice of her mother saying;

Do you know what you wish?
Are you certain what you wish
Is what you want?
if you know what you want,
Then make a wish.
Ask the tree,
And you shall have your wish.’

Giving her strength, Aschenputtel said;

‘Open thee, Open thee
Hazel tree
With mine tears I watered thee
Make me a lady fine to be seen
Dress me splendid as can be!’

With this the Hazel tree opened up. Taking a step forward, through the tree, Aschenputtel was dressed in the finest ball gown ever made, made of gold and silver, With shoes of pure gold. Her face and hair were clean again. A red ribbon was also wrapped around her long strawberry blond hair. Then a leaf fell from the tree and a fine carriage appeared for Aschenputtel to arrive to the festival in.

With this the wind blew again, saying;

‘Be home, be home ere mid-o'-two o’clock
Or else again you'll be in quite a fright.’

This work is kinda personal a close relative passed a few months ago, I still am very upset by her passing. And I feel her watching over me, much like Aschenputtel’s mother did her. Also coincidently there is a college ball coming up.

This work is also for :iconalmightystarfish: who recently lost both of her cats. While I don’t know if it will help, I hope this work does help her :)

Materials; Felt tipped pens, and watercolours.

Lyrics are a mash up of ‘Cinderella at the grave’ from the musical ‘into the woods’ and English fairy tale ‘The Cinder maid’. Also expect a few more works from Aschenputtel to come up :) I am working on etching some in print making :)

My sincere condolences.
I really like the tree, especially the roots.
